How this audio extractor works
Extracting audio means taking the sound out of a video and saving it as its own file. VimCut drops the picture, then encodes the soundtrack to MP3 at 192 kbps, which is a solid balance of quality and file size for music, podcasts and voice. Your original video is not changed.
The conversion runs on WebAssembly (ffmpeg.wasm) in your browser, so the file stays on your device. The output is always an MP3, whatever format the video was in. Long videos take longer because the whole soundtrack is processed. You can preview the extracted audio before you download it. The picture is dropped, so only the sound is in the file, and your original video stays on your device unchanged. A progress bar shows how far along the conversion is, and the result is a standalone file you can keep or share.
